 Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl

Dear Makers Of 'Gunjan Saxena', You Cannot Peddle Lies In The Name ...

The movie Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil girl is based on the struggle of a girl to become a pilot in the Indian Airforce. Flight lieutenant Gunjan Saxena is an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer and a former helicopter pilot. She was the first Indian woman to fly in a combat zone, i.e., during the Kargil war. The role of Gunjan Saxena has been played by Janhavi Kapoor.

The movie begins with a girl dreaming to become a pilot. Many dream but only a few have the courage and the will to achieve... Gunjan Saxena is one of them.

After Air Force wrote a letter against Netflix movie, Gunjan ...

Let me begin by stating the obvious: This is a Bollywood movie. Hence, there are songs where there is no need of songs, things are exaggerated to a great extent and it is pathos. The struggle is glorified such that the Indian Air force has been sketched in a bad light. This has evoked controversy and there are discussions to ban this movie. Personally, I feel this is wrong. There is a reason Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl has been released as a movie and not as a documentary. Movies need not be factually correct

Moving on, the movie is truly inspiring. A spectacular role is played by Pankaj Tripathi as the father of Gunjan Saxena. His character reminds me of a quote, "Mother introduces you to the world, but father introduces the world to you." Gunjan's father made her see that she could be anything she wants to be, she has wings and she could fly. Society may manipulate her into chopping off her wings. However, she has dared to dream and thus, holds the power to achieve. Setting goals and chasing them with hard work isn't as easy as it sounds. The path will contain obstacles and hardships and the ability to face them won't come easy but one has to fight and be resilient.

The movie is stretched unnecessarily at certain places, the songs seem incongruous and the IAF hasn't been portrayed in the brightest light. However, the morals, the value and the inspiration imparted can't be denied. Definitely worth the time to watch.

Rating 4/5
