Fleabag (Series)

Fleabag

A beautiful, dark-humoured, adroit (cunning), gauche (awkward) and brazen (shamelessly bold) TV show created and acted by renowned play writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge. This show has a somewhat nervous, uncomfortable, and socially awkward vibe to it. Remember that time when you were at a family gathering and a super excited aunt came to you (by the way, whom you have never seen before) and starts talking about you being such a darling in front of everyone! Or the time you and your best friend are hanging out and your best friend's previous best friend comes and talks about your charming personality like she is your biggest admirer... and the whole time you are like what the hell is happening? Or better yet, remember the time when a very important guest had come over and your parents had particularly asked you to be on your best behavior yet you fucked up everything? You are drinking juice and oops the glass fell and all you could do is give a smile. Well, this is a little insight into Fleabag's life.

The characters in this show deal with issues like loss, friends, betrayal, infidelity, sex, and surprisingly probe deep into religion (oh! there was a point where I wanted to fuck with a priest). Interestingly, this show is kind of anti-feminist (who am I kidding? It is clearly anti-feminist). This is an out-of-the-box show idea so as to speak. It is especially a satire on woman insecurities. I found it very relatable. A child of the dysfunctional family dealing with a friend's suicide who loves with a love that is painful to her is trying to survive. Told you it was dark. But man the hilarity of it can't be encapsulated in words. Every time Phoebe has a thought, she looks directly into the camera and says it out loud. You can literally hear her think. That is one of the things that put apart this show from the rest. Her expressions are priceless (kinda reminds me of my friend Sharon).

Additionally, Fiona Shaw is in the show (she stared as aunt petunia in Harry Potter) and her character is amusing indeed! There are 2 seasons, 6 episodes each with a duration of 23-28 mins, so, it's a quick watch. Honestly, you can complete the whole series in approx. 5 hours. This show has won tons of awards (Google it... I don't feel like listing them out). I watched this show because it won the 2020 Golden Globe Award for the best television series.

Rating 5/5

It couldn't have been any better.
I am officially a Phoebe Waller-Bridge fan now!

So, you will go and watch it ...right?
