Enola Holmes (Movie)

 Enola Holmes

Enola Holmes.... yes, 'Holmes'. The great detective Sherlock's little sister. Let me begin with the formalities: Written by, produced by, directed by, starring, etc... someone who I didn't bother to google. Since you are already using the net, you might as well google it at your convenience. Now, as far as the movie is considered, I feel it is a one time watch. Being a reader of Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books, I had correctly predicted the climax of the movie, so the mystery wasn't such a big surprise to me. However, the journey was fabulous.

Enola was raised by her mother ( Helena Bonham Carter / Bellatrix) who gave her a very unique upbringing. She was raised to be a feminist and a part of the suffrage movement. However, Mrs. Holmes left her home to Enola Holmes who was now a ward of Mycroft Holmes (the elder brother of Sherlock Holmes). Mycroft wanted Enola to attend a school that teaches embroidery and other things that are required to be a woman. (Fiona Shaw/ Aunt petunia is the headmistress of the school). This went against Enola's ideology and she started on a quest to find her dangerous, intelligent, feminist, and some martial arts technique master mother.

The movie is a classic, humorous, and a delight to watch. Some dialogues, I found worth quoting are:
  • "If you don't choose a path for yourself, then others will choose it for you."
  • "The future is up to you."
  • "Being emotional is understandable but not necessary."
  • "Privacy is the highest virtue and often the one most violated."
  • Enola: "Sometimes you have to dangle your feet in water to attract the shark." Tewkesbury: "But why do you want to attract the shark?" Enola:" Good point, I didn't think of that."
