Comedy: Seth Meyer (Lobby Baby) & Ellen DeGeneres (Relatable)

 Comedy Special

Seth Meyer

An American comedian, writer, producer, actor, and television host. Every comedian has a talent unique to him/her. From my analysis of Seth Meyer's videos and shows, particularly his monologues, I have observed his strong suit to be political jokes. Thus, his shows always have a satire on many social issues like racism, the LGBTQ community's lack of rights, and their social acceptance. The focus also includes the current news and its presentation in a hilarious way. Seth Adam Meyer, an SNL Alumnus, currently running his own show Late Night With Seth Meyers has done many shows, series, and few movies. He has a stand-up special as well - Lobby Baby.

Lobby baby is Seth Meyer's stand-up comedy special featuring Seth Meyer's life and a political segment. A comedian's specialty is presenting simple and everyday incidents in a laugh-your-ass-off manner. However, Seth Meyer has had some bizarre experiences. One of the major ones is having the second baby in a lobby despite having a pretty crazy experience during the delivery of the first child. You would think he would be prepared for the second one but I guess not. Seth begins the special from the time he was dating his wife to be to his current married life. It is easier to kick the passport off the Paris bridge than to take a knee on the Paris bridge and not propose. His wife is a sex prosecutor and Seth is funny sometimes. The special was recorded in 2019 starring the biggest comedian of all- Donald J. Trump. The political segment is dedicated to him. Seth does a great impersonation of Trump. The accent, the way of speaking, and the accurate pauses make him a delight to watch. Trump is a problem for the country. He is a nut case. However, he has been good for the comedy business. I mean look! Who hasn't made fun of Trump?

Ellen DeGeneres

A lesbian and then a comedian, television host, actress, writer, and producer. Oh and also an author. Isn't this how society sees it? Or has it changed? I wouldn't know. Haven't really been outside in 2020. Ellen has come a long way. Coming from a modest family, she has built herself quite a career despite suffering major a setback. Ellen started her career with stand-ups and continued till 2003. She did one again in 2018 after a long time. She has done many shows, voice-overs, and a sitcom. However, when she came out as gay, she was rejected and people associated with her lost their jobs as well. It was a dark time for Ellen. Today, she hosts one of the world's most popular talk shows and has a great fan following. Ellen is kind, generous, a big-time animal lover, and basically a great humanitarian. Her 2018 stand up special is- Relatable.

Something is only funny if people understand it and find it relatable. People connect to each other when they have gone through the same thing or have had a similar experience. A comedian brings out the irony or the unintelligence of the situation in a rib-tickling way and that is what makes an audience laugh. Ellen's special Relatable came out in 2018. She was 60 years old and very very famous when she did this. She was quite rich as well. Being such a big celebrity begs the question, is Ellen still relatable? When Ellen did her first stand-up, she was living in a rented room with a lot of cockroaches and then eventually came to the middle class. Her stand-ups during that time were relatable. Now, Ellen has a different life. She has a big house and a big bank account. Can she still connect with her audience the way she used to? Ellen touches each heart that listens. I thoroughly enjoyed watching her speak her life.
